Competition Season Begins!

FHS Cross Country began our competition season on 8/29/18, as we traveled to Christopher Columbus Park in Tucson, AZ, to compete in the meet hosted by Flowing Wells HS. For many of our student-athletes, this would mark the first time they've ever competed in a cross country race. For the FHS Boys XC Team, Caleb Jones (SR) finished 5th overall with a time of 18:49.9. Bryce Coffey (SO) finished 9th overall in his first taste of cross country competition with a time of 19:32.7. For the FHS Girls XC Team, Karly Keller (JR) finished 11th overall in the first cross country competition of her running career with a time of 27:23.8.

Just a few short days later, FHS XC traveled to Flagstaff, AZ, to compete in the 2018 Peaks Invitational. The FHS Girls XC Team showed much improvement in the few short days since our first race. McKenna Mullen (FR), Arial Acosta (FR), and Saly Peterson (FR), all recorded faster race times than their previous marks set at Christopher Columbus Park. Mullen dropped near a full minute off her time, finishing at Peaks in 30:18.2. Acosta knocked over 4 minutes off her previous mark, finishing at Peaks in 33:16.2. Peterson crossed the finish line at Peaks with time of 35:17.8, knocking nearly 3 minutes off her previous mark. The FHS Boys XC Team had a few marked improvements as well. Ronaldo Martinez (SR) dropped just over 2 minutes off his race time from his first race of the season. Martinez finished in the middle of the pack in the Summit Race with a time of 20:06.7. Cory Smith (SR) dropped over 4 minutes off his finish. Our season-opening race was Smith's first-ever cross country competition, and he put together a much better race at Peaks finishing in 27:50.7.

FHS XC does not have a scheduled competition this week, as we prepare for our next race hosted by Pusch Ridge Christian Academy on 9/12/18.
