FHS Cross Country looked to continue their improvements as they traveled to Poston Butte High School for the San Tan Valley City Invitational on 10/20/18. Windy conditions made for some tough running. Despite the heavy winds, four of our athletes set new personal records. Freshmen Lady Gophers Ariel Acosta and McKenna Mullen set new marks with their best performances of their first season of competition, finishing in 31:36 and 28:43 respectively. Senior Gophers Cory Smith and Ricky Valles also set their best marks of their first and final seasons with FHS XC, finishing in 22:32 and 31:55.
Cory Smith and Ryan Leopard (JR) finished in 4th and 6th place in the open division race. Ronaldo Martinez (SR) finished 2nd overall in the varsity race and Bryce Coffey (SO) finished 4th overall, continuing their season of outstanding performances.
Ariel Acosta, McKenna Mullen, Cory Smith, and Ryan Leopard earned awards for their top finishes in the open division races. Karly Keller, Ronaldo Martinez, and Bryce Coffey earned medals for their top finishes in the varsity races as well.
